Agent: An independent moving company that is under some form of professional
agreement with another carrier.
Air ride: A suspension system consisting of cylinders filled with compressed air.
This system is used on certain relocation services’ shipping trailers. Air ride systems are
considered safer for transporting items than conventional spring suspension systems.
Bill of Lading: A receipt of your goods, often itemized, and a contract for their
transportation.
Binding estimate: A guaranteed agreement, made in advance of service, for the cost
of a moving company’s services.
Installation service: A service provided by certain relocation companies that
includes the company’s reinstallation of an office’s equipment.
Inventory: A detailed list of the goods that are being moved by the relocation
company.
Non-binding estimate: A non-guaranteed estimate for the cost of a moving company’s
services.
Replacement cost: The cost for a moving company to replace a specific item.
Value: The overall worth of an item.
